Conquering The Beach

While I walked along a dreamlike beach in The Hamptons a small wave came crashing into me suddenly. My pants now wet I thought, how did it come so far?

Which made me look further down to see more waves taking other people by surprise. Some big, some small. A few people ran back but some just sat in place. I guess enjoying the feeling of the water.

I looked out at the horizon and noticed huge waves a great distance away. But most of them died down before they could hit the shore. And because of my obsession with stories, I concluded that...

SOCIAL MEDIA IS A BEACH:

And...

your content is a wave crashing toward your audience [the sand]. And chances are, you've been asking yourself the wrong question."How big can I make my wave?"

The real question is :

"How far inland can my wave reach?"

Because it doesn't matter how massive of a wave you can produce if it never hits the shore. The longer your wave can remain a wave, the closer you get to a genuine interaction. Not just a view [or a viral video]. The deeper the impact you make on someone's day—or even their entire life. That's when passerby's becomes community. Creating connections that mean something.

But...

I had to acknowledge that everyone's different. Where I value human connection above all else, others may value engagement, brand deals, sponsorships, or money. All very valid & important things for creators to thrive. So I threw out the notion that if you tell real stories you have to sacrifice those things. I started to visualize a storytelling process that caters to those who don't mind a few hundred views. And those who want thousands or even millions!

My ending realization right before I decided to create Storycrafters : Our goal is to flood the beach. Every time. With a big wave [viral]. Or a small one [not viral]. And without storytelling, it’s quite the difficult thing to accomplish.

Just a random guy obsessed with the world of storytelling. I'd say the last 3 years I've been neck deep into stories & human connection. And through my passion all of this was born.
